Robert Goldstrom
Morningstar Panorama: Large Contemporary Landscape of Sheep and Red Barns

2022

About the Item

Morningstar Panorama Large Contemporary Oil Painting of Rural Landscape with Sheep Grazing and Red Barns Painted by Robert Goldstrom in 2022, 24 x 48 inches, 25 x 49 inches framed in contemporary black wood floater frame Robert Goldstrom paints his local surroundings, but it can take years for him to settle into a new subject. A long time Brooklyn resident, he is well known for his poignant and enchanting paintings of his beloved borough. However, the artist moved to Claverack seven years ago and is now just starting to incorporate landscape scenery into his repertoire. Pastoral settings like Morningstar Farms are portrayed in this recent body of work, but the artist seeks to paint more than just a pretty picture, stating “I’m starting to figure out a personal vision of a landscape that has been the subject of so many other artists for over two hundred years”. Picturesque farmland is captured in juxtaposition with transmission and water towers, imposing signs of development that are as much a part of our landscape as sunsets and mountains. This painting of a landscape panoramic view shows a flock of sheep, gently grazing the pastures amongst the tall, deciduous tress. A cluster of red and white barns are spotted to the right, framed by the ever present existence of power lines. The artist’s quintessential style of tightly peppered brushwork enlivening softened forms calls to mind the work of American Gothic artist Grant Wood. Goldstrom's scenes are imbued with Hopper-esque light and shadow and remains unchanged no matter the subject matter. About the artist: Robert Goldstrom lives and paints Upstate New York by way of Brooklyn, NY. After years of making a living as an illustrator, winning both Gold and Silver Medals from the Society of Illustrators, Robert turned more and more to creating personal work. Now a full-time artist, he usually works in series – The Anatomy Lesson, Aquarium Paintings, Bank Paintings – following an idea from image to image until it plays itself out. Robert has shown his work at MDH Fine Arts and Underbridge Pictures in New York City, the A Gallery in Provincetown , MA, Weiler House Fine Arts in Fort Worth, TX, and now Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY. His work is in the collection of The Smithsonian Institution, The Cooper Hewitt, and many private collections, and has been featured on television in CSI on CBS, the Fox series, The Following, and the forthcoming NBC series, Allegiance.

  • Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas)
    By Dan Rupe
    Located in Hudson, NY
Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas) by Dan Rupe 22 x 22 inches oil on linen canvas Signed on reverse Artist Dan Rupe paints only from life, his composition ruled by his intuitive sense of formal order. He begins covering his canvas with a deep crimson wash. This ground gives his brilliant pure color , applied with an expressive, direct gesture, an electric charge. No matter how often or how long one looks at a Rupe painting, it is always the present tense. The tone of his palette, the freshness and clarity of primary colors, reflects an optimistic attitude, an intrinsic love of life. In this work, three vibrant peach colored lilies open their blooms amidst bright green grasses. Rupe succeeds at capturing the immediacy of his subjects be it flowers, buildings or people. Read below for an amusing profile written about the artist in 2003: You‘ve likely seen him on the streets of Hudson, seated before his canvas in a multi-colored paint daubed t-shirt and shorts, his straw hat providing shade for all but his tanned forearms and knees. His splattered Technicolor Walkman tape player...

  • Garden Chair (Hudson Valley Landscape Painting of Country Wintertime Scene)
    By John Kelly
    Located in Hudson, NY
Hudson Valley landscape painting of a snowy country scene in the wintertime. Oil on linen, 34 x 26 inches John Kelly approaches the Hudson Valley landscape with the eye of an architect and the hand of an impressionist. With intense attention paid to form and light, Kelly nevertheless manages to abstract the landscape just slightly, breaking earth, sky, and atmosphere down to their most elemental qualities. In this painting, a snowy hillside is rendered in shades of white, cream, and blue, contrasted with the warm sienna and umber hue of the trees and a crimson chair. An expansive winter landscape can be glimpsed just beyond the treetops. About the artist: Hudson Valley based painter John Kelly received his education from the Art Institute of Boston and Buffalo State. He has been exhibiting around the northeastern United States since the 1970s.
