'The Decoy, Wissington, Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk' by Rowland Suddaby 1912-1972 Oil on canvas, signed, 63.5 x 76 cm Rowland Suddaby is one of the enduring names of the twentieth century landscape group of artists based around the Colchester School of Art, this included John Nash and Edward Bowden. He had left his roots in Yorkshire as a young man to paint in London and was picked up by the Redfern Gallery as a promising young artist. During the War he was commissioned to travel the country for the Recording Britain project run by the Pilgrim Trust. After the War he began a long career as an exhibiting artist with work in no less than twenty public galleries. Locally he worked as Curator for the Gainsborough House for many years.
