About the Item
Serene seascape of Carmel, California by unknown artist Elle (20th Century). (Helen S. Elle; By 1930 she and daughter Edith had moved to Los Angeles. Mrs. Elle died in San Diego, CA on March 12, 1964. Her known works include colorful depictions of southern California.)
Source: Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940" The viewer looks out at the ocean from the beach, behind a large rock and cypress trees. In the distance, light, fluffy pink and white clouds nearly fill the sky. Of particular interest are the shadows cast by the rocks, rendered with subtle changes in color.
Signed "Elle" in the lower left corner.
Presented in a wood frame with a linen liner.
