This American realist western landscape, "Above Big Pine", depicts a scene from the majestic Sierra Nevadas in an area above Big Pine in Inyo County from celebrated artist Willard Dixon, who has captured the undeniable beauty of the west for the past 40 years. The piece is framed in a minimal hardwood and is artist signed and dated. The condition is new and excellent, ready to ship. Willard Dixon’s art has been shown extensively in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York, He has had over 40 one-man shows and numerous group shows. His work is in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY, The SFMOMA, and the Oakland Museum of California Art. He has executed large-scale commissions for The California Supreme Court, The Oakland Museum and The Las Vegas Federal Courthouse. He received an NEA Fellowship Grant in 1989. In 2013, one of his portraits was included in The Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. Presented from Andra Norris Gallery in Burlingame, CA.
