About the Item

Portrait on large sheet of paper of a naked man with voluminous hairdo typical of the 1970s. Signed at the bottom by author , Marco Silombria. On the back archival stamp , certifying authenticity of the work. Marco Silombria, (Savona, 1936 - Albissola, 2014) Pupil of Emilio Scannavino at Ligustica, collaborator of Armando Testa in Turin, creator of all advertising for Fiat, Facis, Superga, Defonseca and other major Italian companies from the 1970s to the 1990s; creator of works with a strong Pop imprint. A highly regarded and respected painter and advertising graphic designer who had established himself in Turin beginning in the late 1960s. Having landed in Turin in the 1950s, after having taken his first steps with such distinguished artists as Emilio Scavanino and Lucio Fontana, in that temple of ceramic art that is Albisola, Silombria had made a long apprenticeship in the Sanguineti advertising agency, getting noticed by Armando Testa. He had later been one of the founders of the CGSS agency along with other prominent publicists such as Silvio Saffirio, Gagliardi and Giorgio Caponetti. He signed several successful advertising campaigns: from the one for Gallo rice to the Fiat 127, to posters for the Gruppo Finanziario Tessile.In turn he became a painter, in the 1980s, and devoted to an avowedly and decidedly homoerotic art, between the new Dadaism and pop art, between Matisse and Piero Manzoni, always in the vein of "joie de vivre" and through revisitations of the Dionysian and Olympian themes of classical art. A pupil of Emilio Scanavino, Silombria was one of the most innovative publicists to whom Italy gave birth. He has worked for Fiat, Sai and Riso Gallo for which he designed the historical brand. A creativity that since 1985-when he left the world of advertising and communications for good-he has applied exclusively to art, trying his hand at a wide variety of techniques, from painting to sculpture, from ceramics to photography.
