Up for sale is an unusual unique antique 18-century original oil painting on board depicting a figure of a gentleman wearing a white wig and dressed in a red jacket and white jabot, typical of the period. His face is almost comical in its expression and exaggerated features. Possibly part of a larger composition. Attributed to THOMAS PATCH (the UK, 1725-1782). English painter and engraver who lived in Italy from 1747. In Rome, he first made a reputation as a view painter, especially among English tourists, but after settling in Florence in 1755 he was best known for good-humored caricature conversation pieces and it is for these that he is chiefly remembered today. Patch knew Reynolds, who included a portrait of him in his own caricature of Raphael's School of Athens (1751, NG, Dublin) This stunning impressive piece of art is waiting to be a part of your collection.
