A fine early Victorian portrait of a dignified matronly woman, finely dress in black with a delicate lace bonnet and collar and an exquisite jet necklace. The artist shows a wonderfully skilled hand in the detail and delicacy of the lace and the striking simplicity of the crisp highlights on the necklace. Full of character, this painting is a fine example of portraiture and fashion from the era. The painting is unsigned and presented in a fine 19th Century gilt frame with bolection profile. On canvas.
