About the Item
Artist Comments
A realistic painting of an assortment of glassware set atop a wooden desk by artist Christopher Garvey. A fitting muted background completes the scene heightening the colors of the subjects. Translucent brown, blue, and clear glass shine below a soft light. Their transparent nature allows a peek at a table cloth that's pulled into the background. By taking a traditional approach, Christopher starts his process by building layers of oil paint above an underdrawing. He then works with grisaille, and when once dried, he proceeds with layers of color on top. He paints with intricate brushwork resulting in a captivating still life.
About the Artist
Christopher Garvey focuses on the still life in his work, capturing objects like dishes and fruit with impressive clarity. He currently lives in South Carolina and finds inspiration in Renaissance and Baroque art. When it comes to technique, he enjoys the challenge of accurate drawing and the transparent qualities of oil paint. He has collected many books over the years, which he uses to improve his practice.
