Original Pastel Landscape Painting on Board
12" x 9" (HxW)
This moody landscape painting features a set of tropical palm trees glowing under the moonlight of a deep blue desert sky.
Artist Commentary:
I think the moon is pretty magical and I love watching it come out when there is still light in the sky. This painting is a combination of two photo references. The first was taken in Arizona where I saw the moon during a late afternoon hike. The palms were bathed in the orange glow from the sun and the moon was on the rise. The palms in this painting were from a photo reference I took in California. I thought I had finished the painting but felt I needed to balance out the right upper half corner. That's when I remembered the moon from my hike years earlier and placed it where you see it now.

Dina Gardner
Dina Gardner has always been fascinated by how artists, whether they are painters, musicians, writers or anyone who uses their gifts of creativity, work through their creative process. She is constantly intrigued that the process is so uniquely different for every artist, regardless of their medium. Dina's process looks like this: It always starts with music, which serves to influence what happens on her canvas. At her easel, there is a lot of singing (slightly off key) and there are spontaneous dance parties (not bad for a white girl.) Her canvas is a gritty piece of paper, sometimes purchased, sometimes hand-made. With the music on, she uses a photo reference she has taken for inspiration and sketches her composition on her canvas. Sometimes, there isn't a photo reference at all but rather an idea in her head that she works from. She often starts with an underpainting, which is the first layer of a painting, using rubbing alcohol to set it permanently on her canvas. Dina's work represents the things she is most drawn to: oceans, water, skies, trees, marshes and meadows. She is an avid traveler and loves to paint a variety of subjects that catch her eye while traveling. She loves a big, bustling city and stunning architecture but she also loves being surrounded by anything that nature has to offer from a dilapidated barn, to the sun setting over the mountains or to any path that gets off the beaten path. As an artist, she is always chasing the light, finding the juxtaposition between light and shadow. Dina splits her time between Southern California, where she was born and raised, and Boston, her adoptive city of almost 35 years. Before becoming a full-time artist, Dina founded several recruiting firms, starting her first company when she was 25 years old. What she loved most about being a headhunter was actually getting the businesses off the ground. She loved the 'launching' stage, the blank canvas she was able to work with and the vision she was able to create as she then executed and put her stamp on each one. Standing at her easel gives her the opportunity to put these same skills to use every single time she creates a painting. In addition to her passion for her family, painting and traveling, her heart resides with the Pay It Forward Backpack Project, a grass-roots organization she founded in 2015. The Pay It Forward Backpack Project provides backpacks filled with winter essentials to Boston's homeless population. A percentage of proceeds from each sale of her art is donated to the Backpack Project in an effort to continue to pay it forward by helping the unhoused who often suffer from mental illness, drug and/or alcohol addiction. Dina's motto is 'Carpe Diem" and she does her best to make that happen each and every day.

- A Walk along the RiverBy Marion BuricatuLocated in Boston, MAArtist Commentary: I’ve always wanted to paint a series on La Fleche, and it is happening… slowly. I love the very particular, soft lighting that seems so characteristic of the Loire Valley. Then, as I was looking through some pictures, this photo caught my painting teacher’s eye. She said, “I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with this one!” This painting has three “fun” things about it. First, it is painted over a bright orange base coat like the two others in the series. Second, painting complementary colors over one another (the blue of the water over the orange base) normally results in something very similar to… mud. I had to be very careful! Third, this may not sound fun but I love painting grass and foliage - I use a technique where you hold the paintbrush at its tip, and just turn it around and around so the brushstrokes are almost touching. Do you have pictures saved where you always wonder, “what would that look like as a painting?” Or, “how would an artist or painter interpret my vacation picture?” You never know if they’ll start by painting the canvas orange! Words that describe this piece: France, river, flower, water, reflection, walk, Artist Biography: Life is basically a huge collection of moments. - Magical HolidaysBy Marion BuricatuLocated in Boston, MAArtist Commentary: I have been asked numerous times by my loyal customers to create more holiday winter cards of my paintings. As I was looking outside my window in this month of March, the snowy scenes in front of me were an ideal inspiration for me. And to make things even better for my creative juices, Paris had just been covered a few weeks before by a couple inches of snow. This happens very rarely and the whole city was paralysed. Parisians were unhappy, as always, but Paris under the snow is magnificent. I asked my good parisian friend to share with me the pictures she took of Paris under the snow. Between the winter view from my window and my friend’s pictures, I had enough material to immerse myself into this project. In 3 weeks, I created 8 paintings and I had the best time of my life!!! I wish I could do that all the time. I painted holiday lights, ornaments, some snow, and I even had an american cardinal in snowy Paris!!! I felt right at home between my 2 countries: France and the US! What wintery scenes or holiday scenes do you find magnificent? Words that describe this piece: winter, snow, Paris, France, tree Artist Biography: Life is basically a huge collection of moments.
