Having studied with the Masters Eugène Cormon and Léon Bonnat , Bergès exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1907. He was obtained a second Grand Prix de Rome in 1908 for the painting The Death of Tharcicius (Saint Tharsal). The work earned him the medal of honour and a travel grant, and it was later sent by the State to the Augustins Museums in Toulouse. He was awared the Henner Prize at the 1914 Salon and in the same year obtained a gold medal from the Salon des Artistes Français. Bergès was made a knight of the Legion of Honour in 1927 and became a member of the jury of the Prix de Rome as well as the committee and jury of the Society of French Artists .
