About the Item

This still life painting composed of oil on canvas is by well-known contemporary realist Langdon Quin (1948- ). The painting was done in 1984. It measures 18” x 18” (23” x 23” framed). It is initialed in the lower right “LQ”. On the reverse, it bears a label from San Francisco’s Contemporary Realist Gallery. The label has artist, title, size, medium and date – “Quin, Langdon, still life with Figure, Red Arrangement, 18”x18”, oil/canvas, 1984.” The frame is a very nice silvered wood with red highlights, very appropriate for the painting. The painting and frame are in good condition. The frame has a small chip upper right corner and a small loss of silver on side of the left molding. Please see pictures 7 and 8. About the artist: Langdon Quin has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally. Since receiving his MFA in Painting from Yale University in 1976. He is the recipient of many awards including a Fulbright Fellowship, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, a National Endowment for the Arts grant, and two Ingram Merrill Foundation grants. He is also a member of the National Academy of Design in New York City. His work is in prominent public and private collections both here and abroad. In addition, he has had a distinguished academic career teaching and is currently a Professor Emeritus of Painting and Drawing at the University of New Hampshire. Quin has had numerous one person shows in galleries on both the east and west coasts. These have included The Thomas Deans Fine Art in Atlanta , the Kraushaar Galleries, Robert Schoelkopf Gallery, New York, Alpha Gallery, Boston and Hackett Freedman Gallery, San Francisco.
