Anthony Goicolea
"Recital" - Framed color photograph

2001

About the Item

Contemporary color figurative photograph by Anthony Goicolea, titled "Recital." Offered framed. Image size: 8 x 10 inches Frame size: 12 x 15 inches As you view Anthony Goicolea's photographic work, you enter his world of childhood fantasies and fears. The New York-based artist is mostly recognized for his multiple self-portraits, where clones of himself appear in his digitally altered realities. Frequently portraying himself as an adolescent schoolboy, Goicolea brings a sense of innocence to his often provocative images. Goicolea states, 'I am interested in ways of dealing with the body and self-perceptions, identity and ego and narcissism, particularly through using multiple self-portraits, exaggerated narcissism and alter ego.' The artist has exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia—notably at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, Illinois; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the International Center of Photography, New York; Postmasters Gallery, New York; Haunch of Venison Gallery, London, United Kingdom; Galerie Aurel Scheibler, Berlin, Germany; the Groninger Museum, the Netherlands; and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain. Alter Ego: A Decade of Work by Anthony Goicolea is the first major traveling museum exhibition devoted solely to his work. Goicolea’s art is held in many public collections, including those of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Yale University Art Collection, New Haven, Connecticut; the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh; and Telfair Museums, Savannah, Georgia. contemporary photography, photography, color photography, figurative photography, portrait, portrait photography, male figure, interior photography, animals, sheep

  • Love Wins - Rainbow glass pill sculpture
    By Edie Nadelhaft
    Located in East Quogue, NY
Limited edition rainbow colored glass pill sculpture. Edition of 9. Signed and numbered on the back by the artist. The piece is equipped with a D-ring on the back for easy hanging. "Love Wins" is part of Edie Nadelhaft's "Better Living Thru Chemistry: Luv is the Drug" sculpture series consisting of candy-colored glass and mixed media capsule-shaped objects. Each pill is festooned with text messages, social media iconography and the language of pop psychology. Inspired in equal parts by the ubiquitous presence of social media in contemporary culture and the simultaneous rise of direct - to - consumer pharmaceutical marketing. The work pokes fun at the alternately amusing and depressing correlations between the two phenomena as both are enlisted to oversimplify the human condition and expedite contentment through a familiar cocktail of instant gratification and seductive packaging. Edie Nadelhaft is a New York-based painter and mixed media artist whose work has been widely exhibited at museums, art fairs and galleries. She studied painting and art history at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and S.U.N.Y. Purchase. She received her BFA with Honors from The Massachusetts College of Art & Design. Black and white contemporary abstract ink painting by Christopher Rico - ink on Yupo paper. Offered unframed. For this black and white series of paintings, Rico uses oversized calligraphy brushes on Yupo paper. He lays out long sheets on the floor and masks off dimensions for what would become separate sheets. Many of the eventual works were painted together as one in order to preserve single and repetitive strokes that materialized as part of his daily meditations. This physical meditation resulted in artifacts of gesture allowing subconscious imagery to emerge freely as though they were born from the depths--where a physical entity’s relationship to gravity and environment is different than for lifeforms on the surface.
