Escape To Eden

About the Item

About the artist: Husband and wife duo BJ and Richeille Formento create cinematic, quasi-anthropological photographs. The couple began collaborating in 2005, uniting BJ’s experience in fashion and street photography with Richeille’s background as a fashion designer and art director. Their photographs span diverse topics—from the town of Gary, Indiana, to geishas in Japan—exploring the cultural and aesthetic implications of place through staged environments and saturated colors. The couple’s transition away from fashion photography resulted from an impulse to document certain characteristics of different cultures. “We wanted to capture the peculiarity, even idiosyncrasy, of Japanese culture before it is diluted beyond recognition through the influence of modernity,” Richeille has said about their work in Japan.

Frame adds 7" to dimensions. Artwork is available in three sizes: 20 in. x 40 in. 30 in. x 60 in. 40 in. x 80 in. Artist Journal Entry: "The cowboy and western lifestyle is always in an ebb-and-flow state in our society. When new hit television shows or movies come out, it tends to rise again in popularity in pop culture. What most people don’t see is that there is a thriving community that is still hard at work every single day behind barbed wire fences. Men and women caring for the land and the animals that we rely on in this country. Most of us can become easily distracted by a society that has misled us to believe that luxury items, vanity, and fame, are the only examples of success. Where value is determined by the number in one’s bank account. We’re constantly scrambling to make it to the top without realizing that these lifestyles and items are only temporary. You can’t take them with you once you’ve given your bones back to the earth. I captured this photograph out in west Texas just outside the small town of Marfa. I wanted to create an artwork that honors the American cowboy and places them at the forefront of our culture. A way to highlight them and their story. When trends shift and modern-day influence fades, cowboys never die." About The Artist: Beau Simmons...

  • Pit Stop
    Located in Miami, FL
Frame adds 7" to dimensions. Artwork is available in three sizes: 32 in. x 40 in. 48 in. x 60 in. 60 in. x 75 in. Artist Journal Entry: "My artwork, Pit Stop, was created with references like Bonnie & Clyde and the movie Pulp Fiction floating around in my head. A story that focuses on two lovers stopping at an old diner somewhere in the Mojave desert. An empty and barren wasteland that stretches on for miles and miles offering those who visit a last call to fill up on gas, grab a bite to eat, or crash in an old dusty motel room for the night. I wanted to capture a mood that felt lived in. A place that allows your mind to engage with it and feel like you’re standing there under a hot summer sun. Surrounding you in an environment filled with rolling tumbleweeds, cracked leather seats, 70s country echoing through the valley, the smell of burgers on the grill, cigarette smoke dancing in the air, the bell hanging above the gas station door dinging as you walk in, and the lovely stare from a woman’s eyes sitting beside you. This artwork was also an opportunity for me to create a scenario that I believe was just an average day fifty years ago. A much simpler time in a place I once called home. This artwork is for those who live for adventure. For those who live on the road. Finally, for those who just need a mental escape from our everyday lives." About The Artist: Beau Simmons...
