Der Foto-Künstler, Roger Reist, reflektiert die Welt um uns herum und in seinen Bildern auf zauberhafte Weise: "Die gesellschaftlichen Muster zu erkennen, diese anhand von meinen Bildern zu transformieren, kommt für mich einer Katharsis gleich." Reist sieht seine Arbeit als eine Art ästhetische Reinigung, bei der er die sozialen Strukturen erkennt und durch seine Bilder in etwas Neues, Befreiendes umwandelt. Dass er dabei die Schönheit feiert und dem weiblichen Körper ein leidenschaftliches, erotisches Denkmal setzt, ist seine "Hommage an das Leben". Befreit von den künstlerischen Zwängen der Fashion-Fotografie strebt Roger Reist danach, in Momentaufnahmen die Norm zu brechen und dabei das Bewusstsein zu entwickeln, dass alles einem kreativen Prozess unterliegt. In diesem systemfreien Raum, der sich jenseits von Definitionen befindet, entsteht etwas Unfassbares, das nicht in Worte gefasst werden kann. Wer kann gibt seine Theorien ab und erkennt, dass das Leben die Regie führt. Die Bewegtheit der Dinge offenbart für Reist das "Sein" in seiner ursprünglichsten Kraft. Für ihn liegt die Essenz im Augenblick der Verdichtung vom "Werden" ins "Sein". Die Fokussierung auf den allgegenwärtigen Wandel steht im Mittelpunkt seiner künstlerischen Expression, da Stillstand vergänglich ist, Bewegung jedoch unendlich. Reists Perspektiven kennen kein Ideal, sondern zeugen von einer natürlichen Selbstverständlichkeit. In diesem universalen Zustand, in dem Nichts erklärt werden muss, sondern alles sein darf, manifestiert sich sein Innerstes. Seine Kunst ist eine Entdeckungsreise, welche die Vielfalt des Lebens und die Schönheit des ständigen Wandels einfängt.

Victor Raphael was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1950. He studied art and theater at California State University Northridge and graduated from UCLA. He has exhibited throughout the nation and abroad. In 1996, his work was among the 50 best examples of Polaroid photography included in Polaroid 50: Art and Technology, an international touring exhibition commemorating the company’s 50th anniversary. He works in a wide range of media spanning painting, photography, filmmaking, printmaking, and digital technology. He creates complex and beautiful images that expand conventional views of time and space. For the past three decades, Raphael has produced a unique body of work by merging traditional media such as painting, photography and printmaking with modern electronic media, including video, digital printing and interactive technologies. In addition to his central themes of the exploration of the cosmos and aspects of travel–through space or time–and their visual records, the artist has developed an important body of paintings, in which water, for instance, and its protean and timeless qualities, form an important part. His photography process of digitally manipulating NASA photographs of planets and other natural celestial phenomena into Polaroid prints, and next altering them by hand with metallic paints and gold and metal leaf.
