The quintessential symbol of San Francisco is small in the picture frame but still is the central focus of the composition. Mitchell Funk's photograph of a Cable Car is as unexpected as beautiful. Behind the Cable Car rises another San Fransico icon - a tower of the Bay Bridge. The whole image is awash in a dreamy golden haze.

Mitchell Funk brings the compositional precision of studio photography to street photography. Unlike most street photographers, Funk is an abstractionist while being a documentarian. Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of " Color Photography" In 1970 he participated in one the first " Color Photography" shows at a major museum. Mitchell Funk
Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
