David Tremlett is an English contemporary sculptor, installation and graphic artist and photographer, born on February 13th, 1945, in Dartford, Kent, England. From 1962 to 1963 he attended the Falmouth College of Art, and went on to study sculpture at the Birmingham School of Art from 1963 to 1966 and afterwards at the Royal College of Art in London. He became well known for his wall drawings in the ‘70s, and in the ‘80s pastel became his primary media. Though a great deal of effort went into each work, Tremlett did not exclusively choose locations that would ensure a permanent existence for his artwork. Many of his wall drawings are short-lived, weathered away by the forces of nature, or simply painted over. He has been travelling around the world since the late ‘70s, creating site specific artworks, most notably at the British embassy in Berlin, the British council building in Nairobi, the Capella delle Brunate at La Morra, Barolo, and the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Villenauxe-La-Grande. He lives and works in Bovingdon, Herts, England.

- The Pequod Meets the Jeroboam: Her Story from the Moby Dick Deckle Edges SeriesBy Frank StellaLocated in Long Island City, NYTwo whaling ships meet out at sea, one named after an Indigenous American tribe and the other after the first king of the northern Kingdom of Israel, the latter set upon by a malignant epidemic and a sailor gone mad with the belief that he is the Archangel Gabriel. Both ships are plagued, one by sickness and the other by obsession, and neither heeds the warnings of the mad prophet. Built out in layers of paper that have been printed using techniques like lithography and etching, this colossal print by Frank Stella employs careful color against warping black and white grids to give the impression of control slowly slipping and giving way to chaos. Photos don't give this piece proper justice; it is carefully collaged in purposeful layers that constantly pull the eye in every direction and the viewer closer and closer in. The Pequod Meets the Jeroboam: Her Story...Category
