  • "Fieldwork" Large 5+-Foot Original Woodcut on Paper by Roger Herman, Framed
    By Roger Herman
    Located in Encino, CA
"Fieldwork," an original woodcut on paper by Roger Herman, is a piece for the true collector. This spectacular woodcut cannot be properly communicated digitally – it is a far more impactful and meaningful experience in person. This work of art would definitely enhance most homes or professional settings, perfect for those who have an affinity for abstracts, Neo-Expressionism, modernist paintings, or postmodern art. This woodcut was printed by Hans-Fuss and published by the Graphic Arts Council at LACMA. Work is outfitted with custom, conservation frame. Art historian Howard Singerman's words from the December 1982 ArtForum Magazine: "...Herman's expressionistic style... with its roots in German Expressionism and the New York School, is previously painted. His mean colors, thick pigment, and quick strokes are not a direct record of emotion and activity, they are not painting outside language, but signs for that painting, for an emotion and an activity that are no longer available. The expressionist act is recast as romantic aspiration; in his inscription, Herman evokes painting's past and admits his need for its aura... ...Herman's distance even undermines the emblematic immediacy of his expressionism, which he uses to attain more distance still. Unlike the flattened, aggressive figures that push to, and threaten to push through, the surfaces of most new painting, Herman's figures are situated in middle ground and buried beneath the paint..." Roger Herman was born in Germany in 1947, where he began his studies at the Kunstakademie in Karlsruhe. In 1976, he was offered a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which took him across the world to San Francisco. It was here, in California, that his career began to flourish. He started by creating paintings of phenomenal proportion, soon christened as the West Coast parallel of the 80s Neo-expressionist movement. It was highly referential work, drawing on his knowledge of art history, as well as his famed sense of humor. With loose, facile brushwork, his art is reminiscent of the figurative German painters who emerged in the 1970s—like Markus Lüpertz (who taught at the Kunstakademie), Rainer Fetting...

    By Ralph Rosenborg
    Located in Encino, CA
"House, and Flowers, and Moonlight," an original oil on canvas by Ralph Rosenborg, is a piece for the true collector. In 1988, Louise Nevelson wrote: "Ralph Rosenborg was the first recognized pioneer whose experimental art announced the coming of Abstract Expressionism in the United States during the mid-1930s. Rosenborg was the first to introduce and instruct Jackson Pollock on Abstract Expressionism while at the Non-Objective Painting Museum in the early 1940s, which became the Guggenheim Museum. Ralph Rosenborg is The American Artist. Rosenborg produced daring artworks and explored the possibilities of movements that are expressive of ideas, sensations and passions intended to provoke pure emotions." Both the technical talent of Rosenborg and his choice of subject matter pair perfectly with custom wood frame. This masterful work is perfect for those who have an affinity for abstracts, abstract expressionism, landscapes, and color-rich works. Rosenborg was born in New York in 1913, his talent for the fine art appearing early. While still in high school, he won a scholarship to classes at the American Museum of Natural History, meeting Henriette Reiss, who he continued to study under privately well after the classes ended. Reiss had worked with Wassily Kandinsky earlier in her career, and as such introduced Rosenborg to the vast arena of vanguard European ideas, as well as provided him a broad-based instruction in music, literature, and art history. After four years, Rosenborg was ready to exhibit. He did so initially in group exhibitions at ACA Galleries, and later in Mayor La Guardia’s 1934 Mile of Art at Radio City. He quickly gained notoriety, and began to show frequently throughout the 1930s, leading up to his first solo exhibition at the Eighth Street Theater...

  • "Sleeping Cats" Original Oil Painting by Robert White, Frameless Display
    Located in Encino, CA
“Sleeping Cats,” an original oil on canvas by Robert K. White, is a piece for the true collector. White’s careful attention to detail and vivid use of reds, whites, browns, and blue-blacks project from the painting, immediately capturing the viewer's attention and highlighting the artist's keen ability to capture emotion and life - all in a brushstroke. White's talent for depicting light and shadow provides the foundation for him to deliver subjects and scenes to the viewer's eye. This masterful and playful work would make a great addition to an art collection and enhance most any home, perfect for those who have an affinity for animal scenes, cats, and color-rich works of art. In the artist’s own words, “I don’t paint what is inside of me; I paint what I see outside of me. I’m an observer. If I see something and I feel an affinity for it, something just clicks in my head. I’ll make the decision right then and there to paint that particular subject during that particular moment. It’s a perfect moment. Once something has caught my eye and I’ve heard the “perfect” click, it’s like a photograph has been taken in my mind’s eye. I only have a few days of clarity with that image. I have to start the painting quickly or else it will be gone and I will lose that image forever.” Artist: ROBERT KENNETH WHITE...
