(after) Pablo Picasso
Galerie Jorgen, L'Atelier Mourlot by Pablo Picasso

1984

About the Item

This lithographic poster was printed in 1984 at the Atelier Mourlot in Paris. It is based on a 1947 lithograph entitled La Femme au Fauteuil. The image was composed of six colors, and Picasso created various proofs of this image, adding colors successively until he reached the desired effect. This lithograph is one of his most significant experiments in using color in printmaking. There are very few other examples of any Picasso lithographs in more than six colors. Picasso was a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet, and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. His artistic genius has impacted the development of modern and contemporary art with unparalleled magnitude. His prolific output includes more than 20,000 paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, theatre sets, and costumes that convey a variety of intellectual, political, social, and amorous messages. Certificate of Provenance: Each individual work of art carefully curated by Mourlot Editions comes with a Certificate of Provenance, signed, dated, stamped, and numbered by Eric Mourlot. Stored in a clear protective sleeve accompanying your piece, this certificate guarantees the origin and authenticity of your personal lithograph.

These beautiful and colorful lithographic posters were hand reproduced by the Mourlot Studio's Master Printer Henri Deschamps in 1969. They are not to be mistaken with later cheap digital and giclée reproductions. Ed. 1,500 In December of 1894, Mucha visited a print shop contracted to create a new advertising poster for a play featuring Sarah Bernhardt, the most famous actress in Paris at the time. Mucha volunteered to produce a lithographic poster within two weeks, and on January 1, 1895, the advertisement for the play Gismonda by Victorien Sardou was posted in the city, where it attracted much attention. Bernhardt was so satisfied with the success of this first poster that she signed a six-year contract with the artist. Written by Alexandre Dumas (son) when he was 23 years old, and first published in 1848, "La Dame aux Camélias...
