Awful Conflagration of the Steamboat Lexington in Long Island Sound on January 18,1840. This single sheet is considered to make The Sun the very first illustrated newspaper ever published. And thus began the lucrative career of one the most famous publishing houses in America. Currier eventually teamed up with James Merritt Ives and the firm of Currier & Ives was born.
