About the Item

A fine and substantial engraving by the artist Thomas Oldham Barlow RA RE (1824-1889), after a drawing by the English watercolourist Francis William Topham (1808-1877) entitled 'Making Nets'. The scene depicts a young woman with a net, beneath a rocky coastal cliff. A young gentleman in a hat dotes on her, posed to distract her from her work. Well-presented in a Hogarth style frame, with gilt beading. There is a label to the reverse from 'Gordon Mills' Fine Art Trade Guild Dealer. Unsigned dated and inscribed. On wove.
