Counting the energy of the shoe

2016

About the Item

The facsimile print made on a paper with size of 100x70cm (39.3x27.5 in). The dominant colors are black and white with a greyish gamma. Describing the work of Timofey Smirnov we can say that you will find here, a fragment of the Fragonard's "Swing" who were a student of famous Boucher and an old electric meter with core wires ("Rococo Metric System"). His pencil drawing is a technique so exquisite that an allusion arises with an old engraving in mezzotint technique or a dry needle. The color goes from black to white - all gray tones of different degrees of saturation. Asking why would you use a pencil, you can get an answer that when almost every day new technologies are used to create works of art and design, the author believes that right now the use of such a simple and archaic tool like a pencil is truly revolutionary. A pencil is alpha and omega, the beginning and the end in the artist’s work. In each drawing, the artist consciously mixes classical genres not popular in contemporary art - portrait, landscape, still life, which he combines with simple everyday objects or objects whose utilitarian meaning is lost, resulting in a genre of metaphysical work. At the heart of his artistic utterance, the author constantly uses the poetic metaphor, which is formed from the memories of cultural images of the past, as well as from the modern author of the sensations of the world and sources of information. Timofey Smirnov is a unique graphic artist from Russia. He had graduated with honors from the Surikov’s Moscow State Academic Institute. In 2008 he was awarded with the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts for the series of graphic works "Journey around my Room" In 2013 he got a Grant of the President of the Russian Federation for the best project in the field of contemporary art PhD in Art Criticism, has scientific publications. The works of Timofey Smirnov are in the best collections in Russia, the UK, the UAE, as well as in Spain and France. His works were shown and presented on most major art fairs all over the World and being critically acclaimed by famous art dealers. Last time in the USA he was presented by the Want Art Gallery on Reveal Art Fair in Saratoga Springs, NY in 2018.

  • Orchid, gorgeous signed/n silkscreen by renowned 1970s realist artist
    By Lowell Nesbitt
    Located in New York, NY
Lowell Nesbitt Orchid, 1979 Silkscreen on wove paper Pencil signed, dated and numbered 144/175 by Lowell Nesbitt on the front Published by Charles Cardinale Fine Creations, Inc., with blind stamp on the front 25 × 25 inches Unframed This work is pencil signed, dated and numbered 144/175 by Lowell Nesbitt on the front. About Lowell Nesbitt. Lowell Nesbitt, who was born in Baltimore on Oct. 4, 1933, was a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and also attended the Royal College of Art in London, where he worked in stained glass & etching. In 1964, the Corcoran Gallery or Art in Washington gave him one of his first museum exhibitions, and by the mid 1970's he had decided to leave the museum a bequest of more than $1 million. But in 1989, he publicly revoked the bequest after the Corcoran canceled a disputed exhibition of photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe, who was an old friend. Mr. Nesbitt named the Phillips Collection as a beneficiary instead. He was frequently grouped with the Photo Realists, but his images were more interpretively distorted, somewhat loosely painted and boldly abbreviated. He had many subjects: studio interiors, articles of clothing, piles of shoes and groupings of fruits and vegetables. He also painted his dog, a Rottweiler named Echo, the Neoclassical facades of SoHo's 19th century cast-iron buildings and several of Manhattan's major bridges. Despite such variety, Lowell Nesbitt was best known for gargantuan images or irises, roses, lilies and other flowers, which he often depicted in close up so that their petals seemed to fill the canvas. Dramatic, implicitly sexual and a little ominous, they earned the artist a popularity with the general public that tended to overshadow his reputation within the art world. In 1980, the United States Postal Service issued four stamps based on Mr. Nesbitt's floral paintings. He also served as the official artist for the space flights of Apollo 9...
