About the Item

This original graphic art lithographic poster entitled "Twelve, Chez Panisse Twelfth Birthday" was created by David Lance Goines in 1983 in his Berkeley studio. It depicts a coffee pot surrounded by vegetables and fruit. The poster was created to celebrate the 12th anniversary of the opening of the famous Berkeley gourmet restaurant by its iconic founder Alice Waters. Goines' name and 1983, the year of the poster's creation, are in printed to the right of the objects. This original limited edition poster was printed in 12 colors. It measures 24" high x 17.75" wide. The poster is in excellent condition. David Lance Goines (1945-) is an American graphic artist, calligrapher, typographer, printing entrepreneur, and author. His work is held by many museums and institutions, including: The Smithsonian Institution's American Art Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, The Louvre in Paris and The Library of Congress. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Goines started his career as a printer’s apprentice. He soon founded the Saint Hieronymous Press in Berkeley, where he still works. He has created many advertising posters, but as a political activist, he has also designed posters in support of social causes and organizations. Goines is involved in all phases of the production of his graphic arts, from the design and production of ink colors to the final printing process. Goines’s illustrative graphic approach incorporates some of the features of the famous 19th and early 20th century graphic artists, with his own unique and instantly recognizable style.
