Kerry Hallam
Riviera Twilight

1999

About the Item

Riviera Twilight is a serigraph on paper, image size 28 x 43 inches, signed ‘Kerry Hallam’ lower right and numbered lower left. From the edition of 500, numbered CIX/CL (there were also 175 Arabic, 25 APs, and 150 on canvas), framed in a classic, gold-tone moulding. The brilliant view of the sun setting upon the Mediterranean is an image that everyone should have the opportunity to view at least once during their lifetime. Kerry Hallam's Riviera Twilight not only affords us the opportunity to view the beauty of this event, but also allows us to experience it and revel in its magnificence every day. Making use of a masterful palette that include such hues as burnt orange, fuchsia, crimson and deep purple, Kerry Hallam's image easily speaks of the hot sunny day that has recently ended and the even hotter one that will transpire tomorrow. At the same time that he conveys the sun-bathed climate of the French Riviera, he carefully places a yacht at center stage, easily transporting us to that leisurely early evening time when, after playing hard, we can enjoy the calm that comes after the day’s sail. Like the Fauvists, whom he greatly admires, Kerry Hallam makes use of broad brushstrokes and intense color to fill us with excitement. His clever dappling of white street lights that gently flicker in the water below convey a sense of romanticism and reflect Hallam 's ability to capture light in a true impressionistic style. Thanks to Kerry Hallam's unparalleled ability as an impressionist and a painter of life, we can relish in the tranquility of this Riviera Twilight much like the owners of the boats that have just moored for the evening. Martin Lawrence Galleries is an affiliate of Kerry Hallam's publisher, Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts. This print is as new, with no prior ownership, coming straight from the publisher.

Dragons is a serigraph on paper with an image size 13 x 13 inches, signed 'Ricker' lower right and annotated lower left. Framed in a contemporary gold-tone frame. Numbered 29/200, from the edition of 500 (there were also 50 Roman on paper, 200 Arabic on canvas and 50 Roman on canvas). Framed in a contemporary silver-tone moulding. Ricker created four stunning images for a suite titled ‘Sacred Places’ – all powerful images of earthly splendor. The vistas he paints, almost desolate in a primeval way, are a chorus of voices that sing of the glory of nature. In a style which he calls ‘Epic Visionary,’ he presents a view that is at once new and fresh and yet as deep-rooted and enduring as the pristine landscapes themselves. In the images of ‘Sacred Places,’ Ricker’s harmonious layering and blending of colors, muted blues and greens, contrast with the jutting precipices and craggy outcrops of rock that punctuate each portrait. The effects of the elements are visible and beautiful, creating carved layers in the rock and earth, and weaving a ribbon of shimmering water as a central feature in each work. “…these places…are sacred places – they are sacred because their beauty is so deep and mysterious that we are stopped in our tracks…for the moment, we can’t imagine anything better on earth or in heaven.” – Bruce...
