About the Item

Beautiful poster created by Kurt Krepcik. Krepcik won the 5th prize in the international competition for this beautiful poster. ERP We are building a new Europe. The European Recovery Program (ERP), later known as the Marshall Plan, was a U.S.-sponsored program designed to rehabilitate European economies after World War II. German companies that received ERP funds were required to repay the German government, which then loaned the money to other companies. This process continues today through the governmental bank KfW, which finances several programs - the "ERP programs" - from the special assets of the ERP. The ERP was a generous proposal to help Europeans get back on their feet by providing them with means for recovery. One of the conditions of this financial assistance was that the European governments themselves take the first steps toward economic collaboration. The Marshall Plan became strongly identified with American anti-communist foreign policy (support for the "free world" as a buffer to the spread of communism), and this aspect was welcomed by Marshall Plan skeptics in the United States.
