Signed lower right, 'Georges Lambert' (French, 1919-1998) and inscribed lower left, number and limitation, '26/225'. Georges Lambert first studied in Paris at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere where he worked primarily under Othon Friesz and achieved early critical recognition for both his paintings and graphic work. Lambert exhibited internationally with success, including at the Salon des Artistes Francaises (from 1949), and, subsequently, in Germany, Italy, France, England, the United States and Japan. He was also a prolific book illustrator, contributing original lithographs to a variety of literary works including Machiavelli's, "The Prince" (1964). Lambert's work may be found in the permanent collections of national museums including the National Library of France which contains a collection of 81 lithographs by the artist.
