Original vintage railway poster published by GWR Great Western Railway featuring a stunning sketch illustration by Fred Taylor (1875-1963) of the Oxford University Church of St Mary the Virgin depicting people walking by the trees and grand historic architecture of spires, pillars and statues with classic cars and people riding bicycles on the High Street. Printed by John Waddington Ltd Leeds and London. Large size. Horizontal. Good condition, staining in margin, restored creasing in margin, backed on linen.

Fred Taylor
Fred Taylor was one of Britain's leading poster artists between 1908 and the 1940s and is best known for his architectural posters. A Londoner, he studied in Paris at the Académie Julian and at Goldsmiths College, where he was awarded a gold medal for posters. A member of The Art Workers' Guild from 1924, Taylor designed many posters for the railway and shipping companies, as well as for the Empire Marketing Board. A regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, he served during World War II as a naval caumofleur.
