Original vintage travel poster - Welcome to Paris Imperial Airways British Airways 70 flying minutes 8 services a day - featuring a great design by the notable artistic team Lewitt-Him (1933-1955); Jan Le Witt (1907-1991) and George Him (1900-1981) depicting the Eiffel Tower with a French flag at the top running onto a spot marked Le Bourget and waving a hankie to an incoming plane with people to and from two planes on the green grass airfield and more planes by an aircraft hangar in the background, the stylised title text on banners with the Speedbird and winged lion logos below. Founded in 1924 the British airline Imperial Airways merged into the British Overseas Airways Corporation BOAC in 1939, later merging with the British European Airways BEA to form British Airways BA in 1974. Formed as a merger between Hillman's Airways, Spartan Air Lines and United Airways Ltd, British Airways Ltd BAL (1935-1939) operated services to Europe until being merged with Imperial Airways to form BOAC. The iconic Speedbird logo was designed for Imperial Airways in 1932 by the English graphic artist Theyre Lee-Elliott (David Lee Theyre Elliott; 1903-1988) and used by BOAC and BA. Paris Le Bourget airport opened in 1919 and has hosted the Paris Air Show since 1953. Printed in England by Fosh and Cross Ltd, London. Very good condition, small restored tears, backed on linen.
