Original antique recruitment poster to encourage young people to join the air force for their military service - Republique Francaise Ministere de la Guerre Aviation Militaire Jeunes Francaise / French Republic Ministry of War Military Aviation French Youth - featuring great artwork by the notable French graphic artist Paul Colin (1892-1986) featuring a pilot in uniform looking up at planes flying across the sky against the blue, red and white shaded background as the colours of the flag of France with the information below - You can complete your legal military service as aircraft pilots by receiving prior instruction at state expense in a civilian flight school Candidates are admitted from the age of 17 years 1/2 Ask for further information at the Ministry of War 12 Direction 4 Bureau 231 B 5 Germain Paris. Large size. Good condition, folds, repaired tears, small paper losses, staining, backed on linen.

Paul Colin
Paul Colin (French , 1892-1985) was a French artist widely recognized for his imaginatively configured art deco posters depicting many well known theatre performers in Paris in the 1920's and 1930's, such as Josephine Baker and modernist figures and nudes. He also specialized in theatre sets, book designs, and costume design. Influenced by Cubism and jazz, he often employed a collage-like methodology to his work, juxtaposing highly stylized figural compositions against geometrically overlapping objects.He was a student of Valin and Prouvre. He created performance posters that were highly stylized, for studio, arts and dance. He was awarded an inspiring graphic artist and had his own unique style as he embraced symbolism and an abstract style.
