Original Vintage Asia Travel Poster Gion Festival Kyoto Float Procession Japan

About the Item

Original vintage travel poster advertising the Gion Festival Float Procession in Kyoto on 17 and 25 July featuring artwork depicting a large traditional float mounted on a wooden cart and being pulled along the road, the text in Japanese and English. Originally part of a purification ritual during an epidemic in 869, the Gion Matsuri / 祇園祭 is one of the most famous summer festivals in Japan held annually every July in Kyoto and at the Shinto Yasaka Shrine / 八坂神社 (Gion Shrine / 祇園神社 established 656). Good condition, restored pinholes, restored tears, backed on linen.
