About the Item

Original vintage travel poster issued by the Spanish national tourist board Patronato Nacional del Turismo PNT for Huelva Cuna de America / Cradle of America. Great design depicting a silhouette of a large tall ship in full sail against the sky with traditional buildings, Mediterranean stone pine trees and a statue in the foreground reflected on the lightly wavy sea, the leaves of a palm tree framing the image with the bold text and logos above and below. Huelva is located on the Atlantic Ocean in Andalusia south west Spain. The statue is most likely the Monument to the Discovery Faith by the American sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875-1942), depicting the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) leaning on a tau cross and looking out to sea in celebration of his first voyage from Palos de la Frontera to the Americas in 1492; the monument was opened in 1929 and is also known as El Monumento a Colon / the Monument to Columbus.
