About the Item
Victor Koretsky was born in 1909 in Kiev, and died in 1998 in Moscow.
On this poster entitled America's Shame, a black man is represented in a pool of blood. It is a critique of the American civil rights situation.
Among the photomontage poster artists of the 20th century, Viktor Borisovich Koretskii stands out as one of the most emblematic. His prolific career in the Soviet Union began in the 1930s and ended in the 1980s, and his unique artistic style has influenced generations of graphic designers.
During World War II, Koretskii designed propaganda posters for the war effort. Later, he designed the first Soviet postage stamp dedicated to World War II. In 1946 and 1949, Viktor Koretskii received the Stalin Prize for his artistic work.
In 1964, Viktor Koretskii was awarded the title of Honored Artistic Worker of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, and in the same year he received a gold medal from the Soviet Peace Committee.
