1918-1988

About the Item

Kasimir Severinovich Malevich Suprematist Tea Service (Limited Edition with signed COA), 1918-1988 Porcelain (Four pieces) with hand signed COA Certificate of Authenticity, hand numbered and signed by Robert Bozak and Gilles Gheerbrant. The work is hand numbered 39/200 underside. 6 1/2 × 9 1/2 × 4 1/2 inches Unframed Called "the teacup that shook the world", this limited edition numbered teaset was produced in 1988, based faithfully upon Malevich's exact design of 1918-1923. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity hand signed by the manufacturer which states, "This porcelain group - teapot and three cups- is an exact reconstruction of the original design (1918-1923) by Kazimir Malevich. The casts are made from a blend of porcelain trays, fired to vitrification. This certificate accompanies set No. 39/200, and the teapot bears that number on the underside. The edition is strictly limited and models will be destroyed upon its completion." In fine condition; a complete set. Very rare to find all intact and in such good condition - especially as those complete sets that are extant are mostly in institutional collections including the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. This set has superb provenance: it was acquired from the estate of renowned art critic Arthur Cohen and pioneering painter, designer and collector Elaine Lustig Cohen - often referred to as the quintessential modernist.
