Forbidden Fruit II by Ondřej Oliva - Large bronze sculpture, apple form, cups

2011

About the Item

Forbidden Fruit II is a bronze sculpture by contemporary Czech sculptor Ondřej Oliva, dimensions are 100 × 100 × 100 cm (39.4 × 39.4 × 39.4 in). This artwork is from a limited edition of 6 and each edition comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. In this piece, Ondřej used a variety of muffin cups to create the illusion of a large apple. The artist plays with the symbolism of the foods: the apple, which represents original sin and temptation, is connected to cakes and desserts, modern culinary temptations, and, for some, the "forbidden fruits". The sculpture's empty forms produce especially intriguing shadow effects. Ondrej Oliva draws inspiration for his works from both the natural and everyday objects that surround us. He often returns to familiar objects, such as foods, to produce new works that are rich in allusions and allusions. Ondej uses bronze or aluminium to give his works a long-term perspective, so the material selection is crucial.
