Ugo Riva
Contemporary sensual and elegant bronze nude sculpture of a woman

2003

About the Item

"Dolci sogni" is a sculpture that combines beauty, sensuality and elegance, made by Ugo Riva is one of the greatest contemporary interpreters of the female figure in the Italian panorama of actual art. Despite being a sculpture cast in bronze, the sculpture appears to be sculpted in terracotta, one of the technical features that stands out in Ugo Riva's style and for which he is famous. The overall dimensions of the sculpture, with the custom-made wheels base, are cm h 78, width 90, depth 50. This sculpture is a deeply intimate and best-researched subject of the vast and high (in terms of quality) output of one of the most significant living Italian figurative artists and surely the greatest contemporary interpreters of the female figure. This artwork is the third of edition three; all three are different in colour, clothing and patina, making all of them, in fact, unique. Ugo Riva represents love in its infinite dimensions: sensuality, motherhood, and the anguishing loneliness of the individual. From the beginning of his career, he experimented with different materials, from concrete to stone and marble to wood. Still, it was with clay that he found the most excellent affinity. Thanks to its malleability, this material will allow him to represent the signs, vibrations, and passions of the subjects that inspire his sculptures. With his subjects and his "sculpture of fragility", Riva tries to record the climate of restlessness and contradiction in which contemporary mankind lives, suspended between the affirmation of themself and the feeling of death. Since 1973, Ugo Riva has held over thirty solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Sculptures of monumental dimension are at institutional institutions: the most recent is the crucial acquisition by the Province of Bergamo of the Imperturbable Gods. Some artworks are always of great dimension in critical private collections.
