James Riley Stevenson was born in Ohio, USA, on October 9, 1911. Stevenson had a studio-home near McArthur-Burney Memorial Falls State Park. He was known for his exclusive use of a palette knife and his focus on seascapes and landscapes. He lived and painted on the Monterey Peninsula for many years. He died in Shasta, California, on November 14, 1990.
