Questions About Lalique Like Art
  • 1stDibs ExpertNovember 2, 2023
What Art Deco rings look like varies from piece to piece. The Art Deco period, encompassing the 1920s and '30s, ushered in a very distinct look in the design of jewelry. Jade, lapis lazuli, coral, turquoise and other bright gemstones became all the rage. While a lot of Art Deco jewelry was black and white, with the black coming from the use of onyx or black enamel and the white from rock crystal and diamonds, there was plenty of color in the jewelry of the era. The excavation of the tomb of King Tut in 1922 further left an indelible mark on all of the major jewelry houses, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron and Georges Fouquet. On 1stDibs, find a variety of Art Deco rings.

What Art Deco furniture looks like can vary from piece to piece, but there are some characteristics that help define the style. During the 1920s and ’30s, manufacturers often created furniture with bold geometric lines and forms as well as intricate floral motifs. Materials tended to be luxurious and included shagreen and marble as well as exotic woods such as mahogany, ebony and zebra wood. Many pieces feature luxe details like gleaming metal accents, shimmering mirrored finishes and embellishments made from exotic animal hide and inlays of mother-of-pearl or ivory. Explore a wide range of Art Deco furniture on 1stDibs.
