Joan Miro / Christies Contemporary Lithograph "Bonjour Max Ernst" Art Poster
By Joan Miró, Christie's
Located in San Diego, CA
Highly collectible mid-century Joan Miro / Christies Contemporary lithograph art poster, circa 1980s. The poster, which is a reproduction of a "Bonjour Max Ernst" portfolio piece, is presented in a simple black metal frame and measures 22" x 28"; it is signed by Miro in the plate and is composed of a beautiful abstract image with vibrant and crisp colors and lettering. Sorry about the shadows and glare in the photos; the piece is in great shape and the background is a crisp white with no shadows or discoloration. #2677
Posters as an art form were invented by Jules Chéret in Paris in the 1860’s. Their proliferation and refinement were the result of advances in printing technology, a relaxation of laws regulating the press, and a booming demand for the advertisement of ‘modern’ products and of the Parisian lifestyle in the Belle Epoque (1871 – 1914). In journals, books, theater programs...

Cartier and America by Martin Chapman Hardcover Table Book 1st Ed. 2009
By Cartier
Located in North Hollywood, CA
Cartier and America by Martin Chapman Hardcover Table Book 2009. 176 pp.
1st Edition Published in 2009.
Dimensions: 11" x 10" x 1".
As opulent as the treasures it celebrates, this lavish volume presents Cartier's timeless designs worn by some of the twentieth century's most legendary figures. It's been one hundred years since the House of Cartier opened its doors on Fifth Avenue in
Manhattan. Since then the luxury jeweler has been creating exquisite brooches, bracelets, tiaras, timepieces, and other items including scent bottles, so-called mystery clocks, and handbags many of them specially commissioned by their illustrious patrons. Readers will see up close Gloria Swanson's bracelets from Sunset Boulevard, Douglas Fairbanks s elegant watch, the Duchess of Windsor s panther brooch, and Grace Kelly s 10.47-carat diamond engagement ring, as well as items owned by Marion Davies, Vivien Leigh, Barbara Hutton, and Elizabeth Taylor. Author Martin Chapman offers an in-depth exploration of how Cartier conquered America, from its European birth in 1847 to its arrival on the other side of the Atlantic, and from its whimsical Art Deco creations to the red carpet prominence that linked the name Cartier with fame, wealth, and exclusivity. In addition to stunning color images of each object, the book features photographs of stars and heiresses wearing their Cartier jewelry. A beautiful volume for fashion aficionados, this trove of jewelry is a tribute to Cartier s...

Vanity Fair was a weekly magazine published in London, founded & edited by Thomas Gibson Bowles. His aim was to expose to contemporary vanities of Victorian society. From 1868 to 1914, full page colour lithographs appeared in most weekly issues, frequently lampooning or lauding their subjects which included artists, athletes, royalty, politicians, scientists, authors, actors, sportsmen, lawyers, diplomats, soldiers, clergy, scholars and other celebrities of the day - mostly British, but also many other internationally significant personalities. Over 2,300 of these colour cartoons were printed, and they are considered the chief cultural legacy of the magazine, forming a pictorial record of many of the most significant public figures of the period. They are renowned throughout the world and highly collectible and recognisable. Famous artists contributed to Vanity Fair, typically under pen names. The best remembered today is Leslie Ward (1851-1922), who signed his works as "Spy", and whose caricatures account for well over half of those featured in Vanity Fair. So famous have these fabulous prints become, Vanity Fair caricatures today often are referred to simply as "Spy Cartoons...

Casa California: Spanish-Style Houses from Santa Barbara to San Clemente. Mc Millian, Elizabeth. The Spanish-style architecture of Southern California's seaside estates, canyon villas, and courtyard bungalows is central to its romantic image, one that has traditionally evoked a Mediterranean paradise. The details of this in exhaustively rich style, ornate wrought iron and wood balconies, colorful tiles, graceful arches, and palm-dotted gardens, reflect the region's Spanish, Mexican, and southwestern history and culture as well as its popular outdoor lifestyle.
This book showcases Southern California's most historically significant and beautifully preserved Spanish-revival houses of this century. Twenty-one private homes built between 1922 and 1991 are featured in stunning color photography that captures exterior and interior architectural details, Spanish and Mexican antique furnishings and Folk Art, and lush landscaping and tiled...
