Florence Arnold

American, 1900-1994
Florence Arnold began painting seriously in 1947. By the late 1950s she associated with a group of painters including Karl Benjamin, Paul Darrow, Doug McCleland, Frederick Hammersley, and Jack Zajac. She was inspired by John McLaughin’s abstract works. Her style, abstract classicism or hard-edge, matured by the early 1960s. Jules Langsner defined the term “hard-edge” in the late 1950s for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art exhibition: “Four Abstract Classicist” In 1964 a second major hard/edge exhibition curated by Jules Langsner was held at The Pavillion Gallery in Balboa, California (also known as The Newport Museum) with the cooperation of the Arkum Gallery, Ester Robles Gallery, Felix Landau Gallery, Ferus Gallery and Heritage Gallery of Los Angeles. This was called simply “California Hard-Edge Painting.” Included in this show were Florence Arnold, John Barbour, Larry Bell, Karl Benjamin, John Copeland, Lotser Feitelson, Fredrick Hammersley, June Harwood, Helen Lundeberg, John McLaughlin and Dorthy Walkman. By the 1970s, Arnold’s work was included in museums and collections around the United States and Europe.

Bold Abstract Latin American Screenprint Scarf Textile Art Print Josep Guinovart
By Josep Guinovart Bertrán
Located in Surfside, FL
This is a thin cotton (that is my best estimate. it does not feel like silk) scarf, woven textile, fabric piece. It is signed in the print and hand numbered. Josep Guinovart (1927 –2007) was a Spanish Catalan painter most famous for his informalist or abstract expressionist work. In 1941, he began to work as a decorator. Three years later, he started his studies at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de la Llotja (Art School of La Llotja) where he stayed until 1946. He first exhibited his work in 1948 in Galerías Syla in Barcelona. In 1951, he produced his first engravings entitled 'Homage to Federico García Lorca'. Two years later, he was awarded a grant from the French Institute to study in Paris for nine months. Here he discovered the cubist works of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso and travelled to Belgium, Holland and Germany. On his return to Barcelona and after a period working as an illustrator and set designer, around 1957 he began moving towards abstract art. His work is highly unconventional and usually on a large scale, using a wide range of materials, three-dimensional objects and organic substances such as eggshell, earth and straw. He has done some amazing 3D wool tapestry wall hangings...

This unframed, signed, limited edition pigment print by world renown artist Ricardo Mazal exists in an edition of 30. Paper size is 35 inches h x 30 inches w with an image size of 26 inches h x 27 inches w. Born in Mexico City in 1950, Ricardo Mazal moved to Barcelona Spain in 1986, and since 1990 has lived and worked in New York City, as well as Santa Fe New Mexico. Mazal’s work explores the process of visual perception as it takes form in the human consciousness. His paintings depict the passage of time, not by illustrating events but by leaving their residue to dissipate in space like a still photograph of a speeding object blurred to abstraction. In the last decade he has been honored with ten individual museum exhibitions, including a retrospective at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (MARCO) in Monterrey. He has also shown at the Museo Nacional de Anthropologia, Mexico City and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
