Shepard Fairey Asian Art and Furniture

American, b. 1970

Expanding on the legacies of artists such as Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, Shepard Fairey’s practice disrupts the distinction between fine and commercial art.

A major artist of the street art movement, Fairey rose to prominence in the early 1990s through the dispersion of prints, posters, stickers and murals, related to his Obey Giant campaign, which yielded an international cultural phenomenon. Fairey’s iconic poster of President Barack Obama was adopted as the official emblem associated with the presidential campaign and encapsulates a number of recurring concerns in the artist’s work, including propaganda, portraiture and political power.

Yoshitoshi Mori Signed Large Limited Edition Japanese Stencil Print, 1985
By Yoshitoshi Mori
Located in Studio City, CA
A quite large and engaging fine print by famed Japanese printmaker Yoshitoshi Mori. The print portrays an ancient Samurai, one of Mori's favorite subjects, with an arrowhead in hand. It is stamped, signed, dated (1985) and numbered (12/50) by the artist. The original 1985 price of 300,000 yen can be seen written along the bottom edge of print. I have only seen this print offered once before making it relatively rare. A must have for collectors or admirers of Yoshitoshi Mori's work or lovers of Japanese prints in general. Would stand out in any setting and/or collection. The print has been professionally framed. Framed dimensions: 37" high, 45" wide and 1" deep Considered to be one of Japan's finest and most innovative 20th century print makers, Mori has exhibited throughout the world and his works can be found in permanent collections in such museums and galleries as: Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Art Institute of Chicago Baltimore Museum of Art Barcelona Art...

Junichiro Sekino Signed Japanese Limited Edition Woodblock Print Aquarium
By Junichiro Sekino
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully composed and richly colored, limited edition woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Junichiro Sekino. This print, which is titled "Aquarium", is signed and sealed/ stamped in red at the lower right. We believe this was created in 1956 although it could have been made in 1946 (there are some conflicting dates on this image but we assume 1956 is correct) and comes from a limited edition of 50 prints (the exact number of this particular print and date/year is likely listed in pencil below the matt but we have not removed the print from the frame to confirm the exact number/year). The very image is widely considered by many Sekino critics and scholars to be one of Sekino's masterpieces. It is an exquisite and rare/hard-to-find work. Junichiro Sekino was largely considered, along with Kiyoshi Saito, to be one of Japan's paramount 20th century master print artists. Both were prominent leaders of the Sosaku Hanga movement. Sekino's works can be found in many museums including: The Museum of Modern Art, N. Y., the Art Institute Chicago, the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, the British Museum, and the Portland Art Museum among many other Fine museums throughout the world. Would be a fantastic addition to any modern Japanese print...

Keiko Minami Signed Large Limited Edition Japanese Etching Print Birds and Reeds
Located in Studio City, CA
A beautiful and rather whimsical etching by famed Japanese artist Keiko Minami who was known for her pictograph-like aquatints/etchings with a playful, childlike aesthetic. This work features a pair of birds - perhaps herons - sitting serenely in a natural landscape reed-filled body of water as a gentle breeze blows by. The etching is on thick wove paper and is hand-signed and numbered (23/50) in pencil by Keiko along the lower margin. A rather rare image and size. Would make for a great addition to collectors of Minami's work or Japanese / Asian art or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting. Minami had many solo shows including: 1960 Minami Keiko Exhibition, Nichido Gallery 1990 Minami Keiko Exhibition: The World of Fairy Tales in Copperplate Prints, Takaoka Art Museum 2005 Birds, Trees and Girls: The World of Copperplate Poetry: A Memorial Exhibition for Minami Keiko 2011-12 100th Anniversary of Keiko Minami Exhibition — Touring Kyoto, Takaoka, Kichijoji, Sakura, Tatebayashi 2016 Keiko Minami Exhibition: Along with the Work of Ichi Ogawa in the Wind, Musée Hamaguchi Yozo/Yamasa Collection 2017 Keiko Minami Copperplate Exhibition: Holding a Flower Basket, Musée Hamaguchi Yozo/Yamasa Collection 2019 Keiko Minami Exhibition: Koto, Koto.
