Demetrios Papakostas is a Canadian painter who makes abstract paintings characterized by his passion for bold technical investigation, colour spatial and perception. He works primarily in oil and watercolour and is interested in creating work that highlights his passion for geometric abstraction and colour field paintings. His thoughtful inquiry into the subtleties of the relationship between abstract thinking and the human condition, are characteristic of his deeply held conviction that art must speak from, and to, heart, mind and soul.
Born in 1960 in Montreal, Canada, he first became interested in the arts after visiting an artist’s studio while on a family trip to Greece. The artist Tassos Loukithis, was a family friend and it was there after seeing multiple paintings and struck by the beauty of many religious icons hung up all over the artist’s studio that he decided he wanted to draw and paint. Anthony Dyke was born in Norwich, Vermont and attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University earning a BFA and MFA in painting. Anthony Dyke was born in Norwich, Vermont and attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University earning a BFA and MFA in painting. As an artist and arts educator, he relocated from New York City to his down¬town Oklahoma City studio, working there for two decades before returning to Boston in 2020. Coming from VERMONT where the seasons are distinctly different from one another. My shift from a pastoral setting to an urban environment set up a dichotomy in my work, both visual and emotional. I have an extensive education in painting, photography, graphic design and figure sculpture. The black silhouetted female figure interacts with lines and planes of bright color reminiscent of a street scene.
Susan Morrison-Dyke graduated with a BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University and received the James William Paige Traveling Scholarship, a prestigious 5th Year graduate program award. She was later awarded the Clarissa Bartlett Traveling Fellowship for Alumni at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Both awards allowed her to travel the world making a permanent impact on her work. Susan was highly visible in Boston’s explosive cutting-edge art scene where she was represented by Stux Gallery in both Boston and New York. She later moved to New York where she worked for Phyllis Kind Gallery and was represented by Richard Green Gallery in SOHO. She eventually relocated with her young family back to her hometown of Oklahoma City, staying 22 years before returning to The Fenway Studios to live and work in Boston. Her large-scale paintings have been featured at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Aldrich Museum, Danforth Museum, Provincetown Museum, Berkshire Museum, Brockton Museum, Harvard University, Tufts University and Boston College among many other galleries and universities throughout the country. The painting is framed (41.5"h x 29.5”w) with conservation quality, high UV-filtering museum glazing. Signed by the artist. Part of Skip Hill's 'Love Garden Party' series, this work depicts four women gathered around a festive table filled with food and drink with a myriad of disparate objects including masks, Asian porcelain, and flowers.
Skip Hill was born in 1961 in Padre Island, Texas but grew up primarily in Oklahoma City. After attending Oklahoma City University to study Advertising and Marketing, he worked as a graphic designer before relocating in 1987 to Southern California. A two-week trip to Thailand in 1989 turned into a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia while writing for a business magazine based in Bangkok. In 1990 Skip Hill relocated to the Netherlands, immersing himself in the culture and learning the Dutch language. His frequent visits the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as well as the Boijman Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, sparked Hill’s interest in creating art inspired by aesthetic concerns over the strictly commercial art he produced during his advertising career. It was during this time abroad that he traveled through Germany, Czechoslovakia and Morocco.
