Vintage Jim Kaufman Intarsia - 1980s - Signed and Numbered
Located in Methuen, MA
This is the LAST piece of Intarsia from the Lapidary Artist Jim Kaufman - no longer doing this work; was being done in the 1980s, perhaps early 1990s. We have had several pieces over the 43 years we have been in business. Last one....because his work is no longer available and difficult to find/obtain, we know that we will never have any more in inventory once this is sold! :-( --> We are offering this on SALE for 20% less. Ideally, we wanted to mark this at 10% off but that is not an option for a sale item on 1stdibs. The reason behind that is at 20% we make no profit after having this in inventory for approx 35 years! Lapidary Artist Jim Kaufman hasn't done this type of work that we know of for about 40 years! This is the LAST piece of Intarsia by him that we have in the All That Glitters Collection and that we will ever possess - there will be NO more. Don't miss out! Jim Kaufman, a very well-known artist in lapidary in the 1980s, this piece hails from about that timeframe and has been stored in our vaults since that timeframe. Brand New - Never Worn - Never had an owner. This is something that comes from a wonderful time in the gemstone/lapidary trade - and his work is very collectable and we don't believe he has been doing any of this work since that timeframe. This particular piece consists of the following, going from the outside to the center: Rhodochrosite Turquoise Sugilite Opal (Natural) Fire Agate Signed and Numbered on the back: "JK V45" Some of his pieces have come up to well known auction houses at times - such as Bonhams. We are quoting Bonhams below for the biography of Jim Kaufman when one of his pieces came up for auction at one of their auction houses: James Kaufman Born in New York City in 1950, Jim Kaufman lived much of his life in New Jersey before moving to Sedona, Arizona where he presently resides. After serving a stint in the Army, he set up a rock shop and taught himself lapidary work that later became his forte. His inlay work has been influential on the work of many artists, including that of Nicolai Medvedev...

Neon Green Tourmaline (with hints/flashes of Sky or Mint Blue) - LARGE 11.30cts
Located in Methuen, MA
This is the find of 2020! With prices of fine quality rough in Tourmaline and other species, it has become unaffordable for anything on the larger side. We encountered this beauty unexpectedly, as it was already faceted with a nice polish and literally caught our attention when in a case with minerals, as well as a small terminated crystal of similar color. The crystal itself would cut a smaller gemstone than this already faceted Tourmaline, and the price for the crystal was the price of the faceted Tourmaline. The color of the faceted gemstone was glowing whether it was indoor or diffused daylight. Since the gem was clean, had a good polish, well cut and priced below what one would normally expect, this had to be added to the All That Glitters inventory. We would describe this Tourmaline as a cushion, weighing 11.30cts(!), of a bright medium lizard green with hints of mint or light blue. Using a dichroscope on this gemstone, one can see both green and a light blue. The main body color is a glowing green with flashes/highlights of light blue or mint. The photo of the piece of rough is a similarly colored piece so you can have an idea of the color of the C and A/B axes. Mined in the Kunar Valley, Afghanistan, which has been producing Tourmaline since about the 1980s. Fine Tourmaline has been steadily increasing in price; Maine Tourmaline...

4.27ct Freeform GREEN Zoisite (same mineral as Tanzanite!) Unique Cut & Color!
Located in Methuen, MA
In keeping with All That Glitters' Unique and Rare Gems, here is a gemstone that most people are familiar with but don't know that it can come in various other colors (purple, teal, green, yellow, gold, pink and colors in between). The mineral is Zoisite and when it is a Blue Purple or Purple Blue, it is called Tanzanite. This ia a Green Zoisite; some call this Green Tanzanite or simply Fancy Tanzanite. Most Tanzanite comes out of the ground as a brown color and is heated to obtain the blue/purple; however, some is apparently heated natural in the ground and we have purchased the rough in various colors. Because this body color is Green, this would not have been heated. Zoisite/Tanzanite is trichroic and as the rough or gemstone is turned to look at all three axes, different colors can be obversed. You can see purple in some directions as this piece is viewed from the side. This interesting freeform weighs 4.27cts. This beauty was Faceted in the U.S. by a Multi-Award Winning Cutter who is represented in museums. (Initial owner/cutter was seeking about $8,000 for this unique beauty from the trade, but we have a good rapport with this cutter and we can offer this to the public at about his original price.) Photos have not been color corrected. Color and Brilliance is much better in person. For those seeking the standard color of Tanzanite, we do have a fine selection of high grade Tanzanites...

Flame Shaped Imperial Topaz Multi-Colored Sapphire Accents - 18kt Custom Pendant
Located in Methuen, MA
This incredibly bright and colorful wispy design was created around the important Imperial Topaz that is the center of the piece, and is only found in one area - Ouro Preto, Brasil. The owner of All That Glitters has been to this location and UNESCO Site a number of times. Obtaining the more common yellow Topaz is difficult enough, but the more rare orangy, apricot, peach, purply or even red is far more rare and quite expensive. When this uniquely shaped, bright, wonderfully colored (color varies under different lighting conditions and the flashes will also vary producing an aesthetically pleasing play of color/light/sparkle), it was a gemstone that was destined for the All That Glitters Collection. Once in the collection, Derek Katzenbach of Maine (gemstone cutter and jewelry designer - multi-award winning one too!), a person whom we have known for many years, was contacted to work his magic and create something unique - and this piece is the result of many months of designing/creating. We entered it into the AGTA's (American Gem Trade Association) Annual Spectrum Awards Contest for Jewelry upon completion. We have attached an image showing Katzenbach's incredibly designed Kaleidoscope using Maine Tourmalines. Words can't describe it and the price once completed hit the six figure mark - workmanship and designs like this is no longer seen. Believed to now reside in the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) museum. This attention to detail, color and design is also seen in "Fall in New England" which is now being currently offered for sale. "Fall in New England", Inspired by the Changing Leaves and the Masterful Color Display in Nature. A Collaboration in Gems, Design, Precious Metal: All That Glitters/Katzenbach Designs 4.30ct Flame Shaped Red-Orange Topaz, Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais, Brasil); AGTA - Natural (Topaz includes variations of Orange, Red, Peach and Melon and is Accented/Enhanced by the Autumnal Colors of the Sapphire Suite...
