An Edwardian Winter day dress in blue Chiné wool - France Circa 1905
About the Item

Beautiful winter day dress in blue and cream Chiné wool, dating from the Belle Epoque. S-shaped silhouette for this two-piece set, with long-sleeved bodice and matching skirt. Wide shawl collar applied with Art Nouveau mechanical lace in cream and white cotton and blue silk ribbons. Reminiscent of the puffed bottom sleeves tightened at the cuffs. Pretty tassels of blue silk trimmings in front of the double-breasted bodice, fastened with modern press studs. Inner bodice in yellow cotton sateen stapled to the front. Matching skirt, pleated at the hips and fastened at the front with press studs (probably a later modification). The cut of the mini train skirt allows a mini pouff to be worn over the loins. Reminder of the embroidery applied to the bottom of the unlined skirt. Two small rings in the back of the camisole allow the skirt to be hung around the waist. Clean, with a few tiny very small holes but no major flaws. Good overall condition in terms of colour and conservation. Wearable today or to display.
Dimensions: French size 38 equivalent. Total height 141 cm. Bodice: shoulders 41 cm, sleeves 52 cm, chest 102 cm, waist 72 cm. Skirt: height 95 cm, hips 110 cm, skirt circumference 300 cm.
