1950s French Couture Silk Brocade Dress and Jacket Suit

About the Item

This 1950s silk brocade two piece couture dress set has a stunning paisley pattern in pink and gold threads. The dress features a scalloped edge trim to the top of the bodice and three sets of darts leading down from the bust to nip in the waist, creating the classic 50s fitted shape. The skirt has two pockets, both silk lined and pleasantly deep for what you might expect of a vintage piece. The interior of the dress is also lined in champagne silk, which soft to the touch. The boning to the front of the bodice is beautifully intact, providing shape and structure to the bust area. The brocade fabric is lovely and thick, with a real quality feel to it. The jacket, though unlined, is made up of the same fabric, and is cropped slightly in both length and on the arms, as was typical of many dress jackets of the era to emphasise the waist and allow the wearer to show off bracelet jewellery. It has a simple rounded edge collar and a straight seam running down the back. Both the dress and the jacket are in excellent vintage condition with no issues and are unlabelled French couture. The suit would best fit up to a size 8 UK, or 4 US. It would make a wonderful alternative wedding outfit or for a special occasion piece. MEASUREMENTS: DRESS: BUST: 32 in. ( 81.28 cm ) WAIST: 26 in. Neon hued dress suit by Gianni Versace Couture which featured in the Spring 1996 ready-to-wear collection, Look number 50. Both the jacket and the dress are made using a beautifully soft silk, in a striking abstract design against a yellow background. The design features brushstroke-like patterns in hot pink, orange, green, white and turquoise, and really epitomises the playful takes on colour which were so favoured by Versace during this period of his career. The dress is cut in a classic mini fit and flare shape - it has a double layered bodice and structured cups for extra support, with gathered detail where the straps meet. The straps themselves tie at the shoulder, and each side features a metal and acrylic Versace medallion...

Spring Summer 1991 Collection France Modernist ensemble from Paco Rabanne's Haute Couture show. Composed of a pair of Bermuda shorts, a tunic-dress made of stretchy ribbed knitwear in lemon-yellow and a bolero with quilted fins in iridescent silver foil called Papier Fou. This clever and deliberately avant-garde process corresponded at the time to a sheet of rhodoïd laminated with a reflective silver foil. Metal buckle with yellow synthetic stone cabochon to close the bolero. Light crazy paper patina, clean set, little or no wear. Very good condition of colour and conservation. Exhibited and catalogued at the Villa Rosemaine...
