Vintage 1940's Saks Fifth Avenue Creme Beaded Chiffon One-Shoulder Bridal Gown

About the Item

Ethereal late 1940's Saks Fifth Avenue creme goddess gown from the Old Hollywood era of glamour. This stunning silk-chiffon garment has so much couture detail, you can tell it was made with expert devotion. The boned sweetheart plunge bodice is hand-pleated and hand-stitched into place with a unique asymmetric one-shoulder draped train. As pictured, there are a few different ways you can style the sash. Sparkling white glass-beads and sequins, in a gorgeous vine motif, cascade down the front. I love the hourglass nipped-waist which flows into a beautiful full sweep. Truly, this gown would have taken days to finish. A pure work of art and a study in dressmaking technique which reminds me of the famous Jean Desses. Breathtaking and timeless; I totally imagine this gliding down the red carpet! Measurements Bust: 35-36 inches Waist: 27 inches Hips: Swing Sweep Total Length: 57 inches This vintage Saks Fifth Avenue designer gown is in beautiful condition with no rips, holes or missing beadwork. Perfectly working duel side metal-zippers and bodice boning. Only sign of age is yellowing to the fabric and underarm marks which are not very noticeable when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. This beauty is over 60 years old and is truly breathtaking.

  • Vintage 1960's Helen Rose Couture Fully-Beaded Blush Pink Silk Hourglass Dress
    By Helen Rose
    Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Breathtaking and incredibly rare Helen Rose designer couture blush-pink beaded cocktail dress dating back to the early 1960's Old Hollywood era. Helen Rose won two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design: for "The Bad and the Beautiful" in 1952 and for "I'll Cry Tomorrow" in 1955. She was nominated a further eight times and was well-known for designing famous iconic looks of the stars of this era. She designed the wedding dress of Grace Kelly when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956. She also designed clothing for Elizabeth Taylor in the movies Father of the Bride and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof as well as Elizabeth Taylor's bridal gown when she married Conrad Nicky Hilton. Helen Rose, like Edith Head and Irene Lentz, was one of the rare women who became chief costume designer for a major film studio. Her style was elegant and understated but still extremely innovative. This sparkling museum quality dress is a perfect example of her pure genius. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; triple layered blush pink silk chiffon that has been embellished by hand with elegant glass-beads, large crystals, faux pink pearls in the most gorgeous floral motif. Such dazzling 3-dimensional texture! The sculpted low v-neck front and back bodice really compliment the elaborate fabrication. I adore the hourglass nipped waist cocktail silhouette which Helen Rose did so well. Helen's couture line existed from 1957-1971. In 1957, the price for her retail version of the Liz Taylor "Cat" short chiffon dress...

An ethereal 1970's British custom couture ivory gown that effortlessly mixes the bohemian vibe with 1930's Old Hollywood glamour. I definitely think this beauty would make an epic resort party or bridal look. The fabrics used work absolutely perfect together; a semi-sheer cotton gauze blend mixed with netted filet lace and thick corded crochet lace. The bodice is framed with gorgeous scalloped trim and the prettiest winged flutter sleeves. This figure flattering gown with a flirty low backside accentuates the waist while skimming the hips with yards and yards of skirting. The knotted fringe detail adds such fantastic depth and texture. It is impeccably hand crafted and on the level of modern day couture. Here is a show-stopper with attitude and elegant.
