About the Item
Pair of Art Noveau Antique Sterling Silver Shoe Buckles c1890 by William Kerr. The buckles are oval and the fronts have engraved decoration, with a supporting center strut for attachment to a shoe. Both buckles are clearly hallmarked. Shoe buckles were fashionable accessories for both men and women from the mid 17th century for the next 250 years. William B. Kerr Co. was a manufacturer of jewelry, flatware and hollow-ware. Established in Newark, New Jersey in 1855. They were purchased by Gorham in 1906. The buckle has a beautiful patina. There is no damage or repairs. Weight 15.1 Grams.
