Bespoke Lime Hand-Painted Salvador Corona Peacock Skirt and Top, Mexico-M, 1950s

About the Item

Mexican folk artist Salvador Corona turned to painting after being gored by a bull at age 24. Known for his murals, he was commissioned by both public and private patrons—including Jácome’s Department Store—in Tucson, Arizona, where he spent the last half of his life. It is no surprise, therefore, that he and department store heiress Estela Jácome should have been well acquainted. What is extraordinary, however, is that the artist painted this one-of-a-kind ensemble as a gift to his patron, and that it should be preserved so perfectly as a wearable work of art. *From the personal collection of department store heiress Estela Jácome; photo of owner wearing ensemble (see photos) will be included with purchase* Lime green linen cummerbund skirt and top ensemble.
