Antique Chinese Hand Enamelled Earthenware Sleeve Vase Signed Ixia
About the Item
This unique hand-enamelled earthenware sleeve vase is decorated in enamel relief of an archaistic style with clouds, flowers, leaves, and an abstract rendering of a phoenix. The main body is dark green with a dark olive-green slip enamel pattern. The remainder of the pattern consists of pink, yellow, light and dark blue, and red outlined in white. The painting is somewhat loose rather than refined, yet it’s overall composition and colour are stunning.
The base colour of the upper body of the vase is worn where it has been handled over the years revealing a fibrous surface. The base is recessed and glazed with noted crackling and is signed Ixia. It also bears the number 48, a red stamp, and the word Fuh, which means happiness.
There is no stamp indicating its country of origin indicating that it was made before 1890 or was made for the domestic market.
This lovely vase would complement any traditional or modern décor.
