About the Item
Exquisite contemporary Japanese decorative porcelain vase, intricately hand-painted in red, purple and green with generous gold details, a signed masterpiece from his signature series by highly respected award-winning Japanese master porcelain artist in the Imari-Arita style. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. This artist and recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique gold and platinum work on porcelain.
The piece boasts the traditional “Sho-Chiku-Bai” or “Three Friends of Winter” motif consisting of pine, bamboo and plum, commonly used in New Year’s decorations in Japanese homes. The pine tree symbolizes strength, bamboo symbolizes longevity, and the plum tree in its wintry bloom represents beauty and hopeful anticipation. The exceptional shape, the striking dimples in high purity gold and the exquisite hand-paintings make this a truly memorable piece.
This exceptional gilded and hand painted decorative porcelain vase showcases seamless fish scale pattern expressed in a stunning iron-red and intricate gold details decorates the entire surface of this elegantly shaped piece. Auspicious fish scale represents waves. A wish for a peaceful life that continues forever, as waves that continuously repeat in the vast ocean. Fan-shaped panels with floral designs are gracefully positioned on both the inner and outer surfaces to represent different seasons.
His signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome over glaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. The artist's profile is available upon request.
This exquisite large hand painted porcelain vase comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist.
