Large Chinese Martaban Jar, Ming Dynasty

About the Item

This is a large Chinese 17th Century Stoneware Martaban Jar. Martancan Jars were created to store food items such as grain, tea, oil, etc. The larger jars were created to transport other fragile items such as ceramics and porcelain. This jar shows a deep natural patina acquired over years of use. It is decorated with incised and raised dragons on the body and a pattern of raised bumps along the shoulders. The rim shows an old chip. The jar is in overall good patinated condition. This would add a wabi-sabi sensibility to any interior and would incorporate well into any minimalist mid-century design, as well as an Axel Vervoordt-inspired interior. ***Please contact MJH Design Arts for very competitive shipping quotes to the East Coast and the South.
