19th Century Chinese Ironwood (Teilimu) Kang Table
About the Item
This 19th century kang table is rare because of the wood it’s carved from, Ironwood. Teilimu, Chinese Ironwood is a slow growing dense hardwood that is a very desirable wood for Chinese antique collectors. This table is crafted with traditional mortise and tenon joinery, the apron is adorned with stylized carved floral motifs.
Kang Tables are used on a heated living and sleeping platform which is called a Kang in northern China. This table is from the Shanxi province of Northern China.
